Description

Join Threads Dance Project for a virtual encore presentation of Objet de Desir Inaccessible (Unattainable Object of Desire)

Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7 – 8 pm CST

Sunday, Oct. 25 at 7 – 8 pm CST

Threads Dance Project created a work inspired by Marie Benoist’s painting Portrait d’une Negress, which hangs in the Louvre. The 1800 premiere of this painting was described by critics as a “Tache (stain)”. The critics’ denigration of the image of a Black woman over two hundred years ago, is still emblematic of society today. Choreographed by Artistic Director Karen L. Charles, the work addresses the issues of race and sex depicted in works of art, and how they manifest themselves in society both past and present. This work premiered in the galleries at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) in a special site-specific performance in November 2019. There was such a positive community response to our Mia performances that we are excited to share this encore presentation to expand community discussion.

The Saturday evening performance will begin with a conversation about the creation of this work with Karen L. Charles. Sunday afternoon’s showing will be followed by a post-performance discussion and Q&A with Charles and performers.

Tickets: $25.00

If you wish to further support Threads Dance Project, we happily accept donations beyond the ticket cost at checkout.

A link for access to the presentation will be sent 24 hours before the event.
